Pikes Peak Insurance Agency wants everyone to be able to get insurance information and reach a person here, regardless of how they use the web. This page explains what we have done, what we know is not yet right, and how to tell us about a problem.
Our Target
We build and maintain this site with the aim of meeting the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, Level AA. Accessibility is not a one-off task, so we check new pages against that standard as they are built rather than auditing once and moving on.
What We Have Built
- Keyboard access. Every link, button, form field, and menu can be reached and operated with a keyboard, and the focused element is always visibly outlined. A "skip to main content" link is the first thing you reach on every page, so you do not have to tab through the navigation each time.
- The mobile menu. When it opens, keyboard focus moves into it and stays inside until it closes, then returns to the button you opened it with.
- Readable contrast. Text and background colour pairings were measured against the WCAG contrast ratios rather than judged by eye, including the text over photographs in page headers, which is where contrast usually fails quietly.
- Screen reader structure. Each page has one main heading and a logical heading order beneath it. Images that carry meaning have descriptions; images that are purely decorative are hidden from screen readers instead of being announced as noise.
- Nothing important hidden behind hover. On our team page, every name, role, extension, and set of hours is visible without hovering or tapping to reveal it. Hover does not exist on a touchscreen, and this is a site people use to find a phone number.
- Real form labels. Every form field has a label associated with it, so screen readers announce what is being asked rather than leaving you to guess from a placeholder.
- Reduced motion. If your device is set to reduce motion, we drop the sliding menu animation, the loading spinner animation, and smooth scrolling.
- Resizable text and responsive layout. Pages are built with relative units, so they reflow rather than break when text is enlarged or the browser is zoomed.
Known Limitations
We would rather tell you about these than let you find them.
- The online quote tool. The quote form on our Request a Quote page is supplied by EZLynx and embedded in our page. We do not control its markup, and on narrow screens it requires horizontal scrolling because it will not render below a fixed width. If it is difficult to use, please call (719) 591-4500 and we will take your details over the phone and do the quote for you. That route is always available and gets you the same result.
- The Client Center. Your account portal is hosted by EZLynx on their own site. Its accessibility is theirs to maintain, not ours.
- The map on our contact page. Embedded from Google. Our full address is written out in text next to it, and in the footer of every page, so you never need the map to find us.
- Older blog posts. Articles migrated from our previous website were brought across as written. If any of them are hard to read or follow, tell us and we will fix that post.
There Is Always a Person
If any part of this website stops you doing what you came to do, you do not have to work around it. Call (719) 591-4500 or text (719) 888-2879 during office hours and someone here will help you directly, including taking a quote or a policy change over the phone.
Tell Us About a Problem
If you run into a barrier on this site, we want to know. It helps us if you can tell us the page address, what you were trying to do, and what device, browser, or assistive technology you were using — but please get in touch even if you cannot supply all of that.
